Why LIMEN Energy is a web app — and why that protects your peace

LIMEN Energy is a web application you can add to your home screen, not an app you download from a store. That was a deliberate choice, not a shortcut. A web app asks for no device permissions, installs no background process, and sends no notification unless you ask it to — so reflection stays on your rhythm instead of the app's.

The short answer

LIMEN Energy opens in your browser at a web address. On a phone, you can add it to your home screen in three taps, after which it opens full-screen with its own icon, exactly like any other app. What it never does is enter your device the way store apps do — no install package, no permission prompts, no contacts, no photo library, no location, no background activity.

No notifications means no engagement pressure

Most apps in the wellbeing category are built on a retention loop: a push notification triggers a session, the session produces a streak, the streak produces guilt when it breaks. That loop works commercially. It also quietly changes why you open the app — you stop reflecting because something happened, and start reflecting because a phone told you to.

LIMEN Energy has no push notification system at all. There is nothing to mute, nothing to snooze, no daily nudge at 9pm, no streak to protect. You open it when a moment is worth logging. If a fortnight passes without an entry, that gap is data too — it usually means the period was calm, and the tool will still be there, unchanged, when something shifts.

No install means no permissions

When you install a native app, you enter a permission relationship with it. Even a well-behaved app sits inside the operating system, can request access to sensors and contacts, can run in the background, and is bundled with third-party SDKs whose behaviour you cannot inspect. Store apps are also strongly incentivised to collect device identifiers for advertising attribution.

  • We never ask you to download or install anything.
  • We never request access to your contacts, camera roll, microphone, location or calendar — a browser page simply cannot take them silently.
  • There is no background process reading your device while the app is closed.
  • There is no advertising SDK inside the product, and no device-level identifier to attach to your reflections.
  • You are never asked to name the other people in your life. LIMEN tracks connections and relationships, not identifiable individuals.

What we do hold is what you deliberately write: your own entries about your own relational experience, stored under your account. Nothing is inferred from your device, because we cannot see your device.

It still lives on your phone like any other app

Web app does not mean 'a website you have to hunt for in a browser tab'. Once added to the home screen, LIMEN Energy behaves like an installed app in every way that matters day to day.

  1. Open limenenergy.com in Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android).
  2. Tap the Share or menu button, then 'Add to Home Screen'.
  3. Confirm. A LIMEN icon appears on your home screen and opens full-screen, without browser chrome.

Removing it is equally light: delete the icon and nothing lingers on your device. There is no uninstall residue, no leftover cached account state on the operating system, no app store record of what you use.

The practical advantages of the browser

  • Same experience on phone, tablet and laptop — reflect on the phone in the evening, read your patterns on a bigger screen at the weekend.
  • Updates arrive the moment we ship them; nothing to download, no version drift, no 'update required' wall between you and your entries.
  • No app store gatekeeping over a sensitive personal category, and no store analytics layer between us and you.
  • Nothing sitting in your app drawer that a person glancing at your phone can identify as a relationship tool, unless you choose to add the icon.

There are honest trade-offs. A native app could offer richer offline behaviour and deeper device integration. We decided those gains are not worth the permission surface for a product whose entire value is that it stays out of the way.

What the product is built on

LIMEN products run on infrastructure providers certified to ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 Type II. Those two names appear on a lot of websites without explanation, so here is what they actually mean.

ISO/IEC 27001

The international standard for information security management. An independent auditor has verified that the provider operates a documented, regularly reviewed system for managing risk, access control, encryption and incident response — and re-verifies it on a cycle.

SOC 2 Type II

An independent audit of whether those security controls actually operated correctly over a period of months, rather than merely being designed on paper. Type I assesses the design; Type II assesses the practice over time.

To be precise about the claim: these certifications belong to the hosting, database and storage providers underneath LIMEN, not to LIMEN itself. We do not claim a certification we have not been audited for. What it means for you is that the foundation your reflections sit on is held to an externally audited standard, while we keep what we collect deliberately minimal — the strongest privacy control remains not gathering the data in the first place.

Frequently asked questions

+Is LIMEN Energy a real app or just a website?

It is a real application that runs in the browser. Added to your home screen it opens full-screen with its own icon and behaves like any installed app — it simply does not require a download or device permissions to do so.

+Will LIMEN Energy send me notifications?

No. There is no push notification system in the product. You decide when to open it; there are no reminders, streaks or engagement nudges.

+Does LIMEN Energy access my contacts, photos or location?

No. As a browser-based app it cannot silently access device data, and we never request those permissions. You are also never asked to identify the other people involved — LIMEN records connections, not identifiable individuals.

+Will there ever be an App Store or Google Play version?

We have no plan to publish a store app. If that ever changed, the no-notification and no-permission principles described here would carry over, because they are product commitments rather than technical limitations.

+Does it work offline?

It needs a connection to save and sync your entries. Reading recent content works in most browsers once the app has been opened, but LIMEN Energy is designed as a connected tool rather than an offline notebook.

+Is ISO 27001 or SOC 2 Type II the same as LIMEN being certified?

No, and we are careful about that distinction. The certifications are held by the infrastructure providers we build on. LIMEN itself is not audited under those standards, and we do not present it as such.
